The Little Mermaid: The Real Story refers to the original fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, first published in 1837. Unlike the popular Disney adaptation, Andersen’s tale has a darker and more tragic ending, delving into themes of unrequited love, sacrifice, and mortality.
The story follows a young mermaid who falls deeply in love with a human prince. In order to be with him, she makes a dangerous pact with a sea witch, trading her voice for human legs. However, the prince ultimately marries another woman, leaving the mermaid heartbroken. In the end, she transforms into sea foam and dies, as per the terms of her bargain.
