A tornado watch is a warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) when conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. It does not mean that a tornado has been spotted or is imminent, but it does mean that people in the affected area should be prepared to take shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
On (date), the NWS issued a tornado watch for several central Texas counties. Dozens of tornadoes touched down across the region, causing widespread damage. No injuries were reported.
